Why Visit?
Come for the beaches and collection of small towns that make up this stunning part of Australia. There are plenty of gems hidden in every town and a laid-back beach vibe that make it the perfect getaway.
Why locals love it
The central coast is close enough to the big smoke of Sydney that you can enjoy all a major city offers…. when you want too. It’s far enough away that you feel the small town idyllic lifestyle at every turn.
Cafes and Coffee
For a quick, on-the-go well made coffee you can’t go past the hole in the wall coffee shop at Forresters Beach, located near the corner of The Entrance Road and Forresters Beach Road.
The Box on the Water | is a great cafe with a beach kiosk. It’s right on the water with stunning views. It also has a restaurant and bar serving cocktails.
Shelly Beach Surf Club | has a downstairs cafe as well as a balcony open for lunch and dinner. It’s the perfect spot, laid back and has something for everyone.
Restaurants
The restaurants are my favourites. They are not cheap eats, however the delicious food and great service is worth it. Both restaurants are absolute waterfront, offering seafood and alternatives.
Ocean Restaurant, Blue Bay | A little bit fancy and a lot delicious. I can’t recommend just one thing on the menu as it’s all amazing.
The Reef Terrigal | The Reef usually have a deal for 2 or 3 courses and it’s always worth it. Should you have 3 courses here? YES!
Bakery
Brown Sugar | located at Forresters Beach and recently under new management, this Bakery creates so much deliciousness
Pubs and Bars
Bateau Bay Hotel | caters for everyone, it has indoor and outdoor areas, live music and good food. A place the whole family can enjoy.
Pocket Bar Terrigal | this bar has great atmosphere and drinks. You would find it hard to have a bad night here.
Beaches
There are more than 40 beaches on the central coast and each one offers something a bit special. This post gives an overview of the ones recommended to dig your toes into.
Exercise
The boardwalk at Terrigal has a walkway out over the ocean from Terrigal to The Haven. It’s stunning and my absolute favorite.
Family Fun
Gosford waterfront has recently had a complete overhaul and is perfect for kids.
Shopping
For all your mainstream shops, Erina Fair has everything, however I love supporting independant local boutiques so head to Erina Heights, where you will find some beautiful stores with great finds. For second hand and vintage stores, Longjetty is the place to go.
Bull and China Coast | great curated clothes shopping for women and girls. Beachy style.
Haven at Home | A beautiful shop for homewares and gifts.
Day Trips
The 30 minute ferry from Ettalong to Palm Beach is a favourite for tourists.
My favourite day trip is the 45 min drive to Wollombi to visit the heritage town, with historical buildings, funky cafe’s and some beautiful nearby wineries.
